We will collect you from your Chiang Mai accommodation between 9:00 and 10:00 am and set off on a scenic drive through Northern Thailand. After roughly 3.5 hours on the road, we'll reach Chiang Rai, where you'll have the chance to grab lunch before we visit the renowned White Temple. From there, we'll continue to Chiang Khong, a border town situated along the Mekong River, directly across from Huay Xai in Laos. Chiang Khong boasts a variety of temples, a vibrant craft village with a bustling market, and plenty of opportunities to explore. Enjoy some leisure time to wander the town before dinner and overnight stay.
From 5:00 to 7:00 am, an early morning market is open at the edge of town for those who wish to explore independently. The group will reconvene around 9:00 am to board the slow boat once more. As you continue your journey down the Mekong River, you'll be treated to more breathtaking views and glimpses of local life. The trip will take approximately 7 to 8 hours, with an expected arrival in Luang Prabang around 4:00 to 5:00 pm. Enjoy another day of serene river cruising through beautiful landscapes and traditional villages before concluding your tour in Luang Prabang.
Begin the day by exploring the morning market, where you'll find a diverse array of local goods. Following this, we’ll take a tour around the city center and peninsula, including stops at the confluence of the Nam Khan and Mekong Rivers and the renowned Wat Xieng Thong Temple. We’ll then venture off the beaten path to discover lesser-known cultural and craft-making sites, offering a more personal glimpse into Lao life. This includes visits to some of Luang Prabang's oldest and most stunning temples, traditional craft workshops, music centers, spirit house artisans, funeral pyres, and the UXO Museum, which provides a poignant look at the lingering impact of the Indochina war on Laos.
The tour will conclude with a delicious meal at a local noodle shop. We will return to the city center around 1:00 p.m., although this may vary depending on biking speed.
The route covers approximately 16 km (10 mi) on mostly flat, paved roads with a few gentle hills.
Please note: Since we will be visiting private homes, some sites may be unexpectedly closed, and substitutions will be made as needed.
Today, we embark on a journey from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng, a picturesque town renowned for its stunning natural beauty.
