Itinerary

Day 1 Chiang Mai, Thailand - Houay Xai, Laos

This morning, make your way to our meeting point where we will set off at 9:00 AM towards the Laos border. Our journey includes a stop in Chiang Rai, where you can participate in optional activities such as trekking. We will visit the renowned and elaborately designed White Temple (Wat Rong Khun), known for its unique and intricate architecture. The temple features unusual murals, including scenes from Star Wars and The Matrix, along with striking statues like Freddie Kruger's head hanging in the trees and a life-size Predator in the garden. You’ll have time to grab a snack and take some photos before we continue to the border and enter Laos. Once across, we'll enjoy a brief tuk-tuk ride to the delightful town of Houay Xai, where we will stay overnight.

Day 2 Houay Xai - Ban Pak Nguey, Laos

Today, you’ll be collected from your accommodation in Houay Xai and transferred to a private slow boat for a serene journey down the Mekong River to the tranquil village of Ban Pak Nguey. As you glide through lush farmland, dense jungle, breathtaking mountain landscapes, and observe water buffaloes, local fishermen, and children playing by the riverbanks, you’ll have the chance to fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the region. Arriving in Ban Pak Nguey in the late afternoon, you’ll stay with a local family, gaining a firsthand experience of traditional Lao life. Participate in a Baci (welcoming) ceremony, swim in the Mekong, visit the local school, and assist with English lessons for the children. Engage in activities such as playing football with the kids, exploring the local temple, or trying your hand at fishing. Don’t miss the opportunity to sample the local whiskey! This homestay offers a genuine cultural immersion experience. Overnight at the Ban Pak Nguey homestay.

Day 3 Ban Pak Nguey - Luang Prabang, Laos

After breakfast and farewells, we’ll board our private boat and cruise down the Mekong River to the limestone Pak Ou Caves. This revered site for Lao pilgrims features thousands of Buddha statues accumulated over centuries. Following this, a brief boat ride will take us to the UNESCO World Heritage town of Luang Prabang. Known for its charming blend of French colonial and traditional Lao architecture, Luang Prabang is nestled amidst mist-covered mountains and lush jungle. As you wander through the town, you’ll see monks in their vibrant robes collecting alms in the early morning—a tradition best experienced by waking early to witness their procession. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Day 4 Luang Prabang, Laos

As your incredible journey concludes, you will check out from your accommodation in Luang Prabang. We wish you a pleasant and safe onward travel.
