We will start by heading to the Traditional Arts & Ethnology Center (TAEC), which showcases the rich diversity of Lao ethnic groups. At the center, you'll have the chance to explore exhibits that offer insights into Laos' varied ethnic cultures.
Following this, we will attend a seminar titled "Ethnic Diversity and Cultural Change in Laos." This engaging 60-minute session includes a presentation and Q&A, providing an in-depth look at Laos' ethnic communities, their histories, cultural practices, and traditional crafts. Participants will gain an understanding of village lifestyles and view unique artifacts from TAEC’s collection that are not available to the public.
The seminar will be led by one of the TAEC Founder/Directors: either Thongkhoun Soutthivilay, a native of Luang Prabang with extensive experience at the Luang Prabang National Museum and international training, or Tara Gujadhur, an American with over a decade of work in Luang Prabang, specializing in anthropology and sustainable tourism.
Lunch featuring ethnic Khmu cuisine will be served at the TAEC Café.
In the afternoon, we will proceed to the stunning Kuang Si Waterfalls, the largest in the Luang Prabang region. The waterfalls feature three tiers with a 50-meter drop into vibrant azure pools, perfect for a refreshing swim and popular among both locals and tourists.
We will also make a brief visit to the Bear Rescue Center, which shelters several bears rescued from poachers and traffickers.
On our way back to Luang Prabang, we will stop by the Ock Pop Tock Living Craft Center, located near the Mekong River. This charming workshop offers free tours every half-hour and showcases traditional weaving, spinning, and batik techniques. It is also an excellent spot to enjoy a sunset view.
We will return to your hotel in the late afternoon. Overnight stay in Luang Prabang.
Awaken with the sunrise to partake in one of Laos' most revered customs: the early morning alms-giving ceremony, a tradition that dates back to the 14th century. Witness over 200 Buddhist monks as they leave their temples to collect their daily offerings from the local residents, who sit quietly along the streets.
Following this, we'll head to the temporary morning market near the former Royal Palace. Here, locals display their daily harvest, from rice and vegetables to fish and poultry. This market offers an authentic glimpse into local life and commerce.
After breakfast, we'll journey to Ban Xang Hai, renowned for its traditional rice whiskey production.
Next, enjoy a 30-minute elephant ride at a nearby camp, taking in the Mekong River from a unique vantage point.
We will then drive to Ban Pak Ou and take a boat across the Mekong River to explore the enigmatic Pak Ou Caves. These two interconnected caves are filled with thousands of gold-lacquered Buddha statues of varying shapes and sizes, left by devoted pilgrims.
Our cruise will continue along the Nam Ou River to the charming Nam Ou Riverside Resort.
You’ll have the rest of the day free to relax by the resort’s inviting pool or explore the nearby villages at your leisure.

Lunch will be served at the host family’s home.
In the afternoon, you have several options: relax or engage in agricultural activities such as rice planting or harvesting, depending on the season; try traditional fishing techniques and taste your catch for dinner; explore the farm and rice fields; or take a boat ride on the river with locals.
A refreshing dip in the Nam Xeuang River is also highly recommended if you’re inclined.
