After this, you might explore the morning market, observe the town's awakening, and then return to the hotel for breakfast.

Following breakfast, begin your exploration with a visit to the Royal Palace, now a National Museum, which displays valuable artifacts from the former Laotian royal family. (The museum is open daily from 8:30am to 11:30am and from 1:30pm to 3:30pm, except Tuesdays.) Next, explore Luang Prabang’s prominent Buddhist temples, including Wat Visoun, a 16th-century temple that now serves as a small museum for religious artifacts; Wat Aham, built in the early 19th century; and Wat Xiengthong, a 16th-century temple renowned for its classic Luang Prabang architecture. You’ll also have the chance to interact with monks at Wat Mai before climbing 328 steps to the top of Phousi Hill to enjoy a stunning sunset over the town. The afternoon is free for you to enjoy as you wish. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Embark on a sightseeing tour of Vientiane’s key historical landmarks, starting with the religious museums of Wat Sisaket, the oldest surviving temple from the Siamese invasion of 1828, renowned for its cloister housing over 8,000 Buddha statues. Next, visit Wat Ho Phakeo, once the residence of the Emerald Buddha (Pra Keo), now home to a collection of Buddha statues, antiques, and artifacts from around Vientiane. Explore That Luang Stupa, Laos’ most significant monument, originally built to enshrine a relic of Buddha’s chest bone. Also, see Patouxay, the Lao equivalent of the Arc de Triomphe, erected to honor those who died in past wars and now a prominent city landmark.

Then, take a one-hour drive southeast to Buddha Park, an enchanting sculpture garden featuring Buddhist and religious imagery over 500 years old. Notably, a massive concrete pumpkin in the park has three levels inside, symbolizing hell, earth, and heaven.

The afternoon is yours to explore at your leisure. Overnight in Vientiane.
